Duplicate UTR check: catch reused UPI payment screenshots before you ship
- The same screenshot can be sent to multiple sellers.
- A screenshot from a cancelled or pending transaction gets reused on a second order.
How the fraud works
Pattern 1 — Reused screenshot: A customer sends the same payment screenshot to two or more sellers, collecting goods from each while making only one actual payment.
Pattern 2 — Edited amount: A genuine screenshot from a smaller payment is edited to show a larger amount matching your order value.
Pattern 3 — Cancelled or pending payment: A screenshot from a failed, cancelled, or pending transaction shows a UTR, but the money never arrived in anyone's account.
What a UTR is
Every UPI payment generates a UTR (Unique Transaction Reference) — 12 numeric digits that uniquely identify that single transfer. Both the sender and receiver can see it in their transaction history.
- Google Pay: “Transaction ID” — under order details
- PhonePe: “UPI Reference No.” or “UTR No.” — under transaction details
- Paytm: “Transaction ID” — under order details
- BHIM: “Transaction Reference No.” — in transaction history

What this does NOT do
This tool checks whether the same UTR appears more than once in the list you paste. It does not confirm that money reached your bank — only your bank or UPI app can do that. Always verify receipt in your own transaction history before dispatching.
Frequently asked questions
Can two payments have the same UTR?
No — a UTR is generated once per transaction. If two screenshots show the same UTR, only one payment occurred.
Is a UTR the same as a transaction ID?
In UPI, yes. The UTR is the Unique Transaction Reference, sometimes also called the transaction ID or reference number. It is always 12 numeric digits.
Does OrderMatrix verify the payment with the bank?
No. OrderMatrix records and deduplicates UTRs you enter. It does not connect to your bank or UPI app to confirm that money arrived. Always verify receipt in your own bank account before dispatching.
Can I check a UTR online?
The only authoritative source is your own bank or UPI app. Open PhonePe, GPay, Paytm, or your bank app, search your transaction history for the UTR, and verify the amount and date match.
What if the customer says the screenshot is real?
A UTR not found in your bank history means the payment did not arrive, regardless of what the customer says. Screenshots can be edited in seconds — your bank records are the authoritative source.
Does the Free plan include duplicate check?
Yes. UTR duplicate detection is included on the Free plan — 100 orders/month, no credit card required.
